In 2022 Mike Patton told Rolling Stone about a new project that was 'a complete detour from what I’ve done in my past'. He added, 'it’s different. And it’s really cool and very exciting.'

In recent update of his musical projects Mike Crain of Dead Cross announced via his social media that he and his CNTS bandmate Matt Cronk have recorded a cover album featuring songs by soul singer Helen Folasade Adu better known as Sade. Crain revealed the record is awaiting vocals by a vocalist 'who shall be nameless and probably one of the few guys who could pull it off'.

If this a big enough giveaway, Mike Crain previously mentioned Patton by name in a q&a.

Patton is of course a Sade fan he said in 1989, 'Oh god, my influences suck! I don't know. But if I had to tell you one right it would be Sade. She's got it all man.'

Also in 1989 at Night Moves in California Faith No More slipped a short cover of Sade's song Paradise into the set. Jim Martin described Patton's voice as sounding like Sade when he first joined the band.

In 2013 Patton was invited to present a selection of his favourite videos on Rage TV among his choices was Sade’s 2009 song Soldier Of Love in which he revealed he had also a crush on the singer.

'Sade, I can't really say her name without blushing. I've enjoyed her in many ways, probably mostly holding up her poster with one hand - dig?! But I love her music too.' - Mike Patton 2013
